The takeaway message from Sesame Street for me was that not everyone speaks English. That kept me fascinated for 12 years, and at the first chance I got I went abroad to see this in action. That turned into 6 years in Germany, Japan, and South Korea. Mongolia was next on the list, but it was also time to get started on a career, so I wound up in grad school in Indiana instead studying – what else? – Linguistics! It didn’t take long (one semester, actually) for that to turn into Computational Linguistics, and for me to realize that the “Computational” was a lot more interesting than the “Linguistics.” I’ve been programming ever since, and when SproutBox asked if I was willing to accept money in exchange for doing what I love, I was. And I did. And I do. And here I am.
When I’m not programming I’m hanging out with my many friends (most of whom are cats), running, watching TV, winning at Chess and losing at Poker.
